“Hizen Hyoho Taisha ryu” members demonstrated their skills at Kishima-Jinja, Shiraishi-cho, Kishima-gun, Saga, Japan on 15 Sep 2015 (Tuesday). It was the first embu (martial arts demonstration) since the latest members commenced training.
The founder of the mainstream “Hyoho Taisha ryu”, Kurando Marume visited “Hizen no Kuni” (Saga area as of now) at the early Edo period (1603 – 1868) and directly trained martial artists in the area, which is identified as “Soden” (directly handing down skills to the next generation). Since then, “Hizen Hyoho Taisha ryu” had been passed to following generations in the area. However its line was once failed around Meji period (1868-1912). After that, in the early Heisei period (1989 - present), the 13th Soke of “Hyoho Taisha ryu”, Master Takenori Yamakita directly trained a 7th dan Kendo Kyoshi in the area, as the second “Soden”. However, the line was failed once again. A good news is that, Masters of the mainstream “Hyoho Taisha ryu Doji Yatsushiro Ryu-Sen-Kan” are directly instructing the latest members of “Hizen Hyoho Taisha ryu”, and they are training hard for the purpose of carrying out the third “Soden”.
A new Soke Master Eriko Uehara, Master Yamamoto, Gotan Shihandai from “Hyoho Taisha ryu Doji Yatsushiro Ryu-Sen-Kan” also joined this embu. The demonstration was introduced by a local cable TV as well.
“Hizen Hyoho Taisha ryu” has a close relationship with Shiraishi-cho (the local area) and thus this embu was the first and excellent opportunity for carrying out their goals, such as making the line come back again in Saga area and pass this traditional culture to the next generation.
